An intentional approach

At MGIC, our people will be central to our success as we drive – with intention – to expand our Inclusion and Diversity strategy. This work is important to us, not only because the data connects more diverse and inclusive workplaces with better business outcomes and employee performance, but because it’s the right thing to do.

What our employees say

“The support that I’ve gotten is to actually create marketing materials and a new initiative where we focus on the Hispanic demographic. I’m leading that effort, so it’s wonderful to see a company that embraces and encourages you to actually focus on your own demographic, your own community. I’m 100% Hispanic and I’m Mexican 100%, so I know a thing or two about the community. That initiative and to have MGIC’s support means a lot — it makes me feel welcome.”

– Concepcion Guerrero, Senior Marketing Analyst

In the community

We value the strength that diversity and inclusion can bring to our workplace, and our company is driven by a desire to do what’s right. One way we accomplish this is by serving as a responsible corporate citizen. Every year, we lend support to and invest in community-based programs and initiatives that emphasize health, social services, civic efforts, education, arts and culture. These are just a few of the many causes and programs we support that help diversify and strengthen our community, as well as our workplace. Our partnerships with the organizations listed here also give our employees opportunities to get involved with programs that will further their professional development and provide leadership opportunities, while engaging them in the community.

Skills for Ongoing Conversations

The topic of diversity, equity and inclusion is integrated into MGIC workshops and many of our recommended online learning courses. The core principles taught get to the heart of what it means to foster understanding and create an inclusive workplace.

Crucial Conversations

Crucial Conversations is a program available to all employees that provides effective communication techniques. It’s highly rated and filled with tools and techniques that help foster a more inclusive culture.

Creating an Inclusive Culture

We offered a workshop called “Creating an Inclusive Culture” to help employees cultivate a more productive and inclusive environment by deepening their understanding about diversity and the impact of unconscious bias. We partnered with the University of Wisconsin’s School of Business, Center for Professional and Executive Development, to leverage expert research, tools, and activities to help MGIC employees identify actions they can take on their journeys toward cultural competence and inclusion at work and in their personal lives.

Confronting Bias: Thriving Across our Differences

All employees are encouraged to take this LinkedIn Learning course to discover how to help create inclusive environments in which everyone thrives and finds greater meaning, well being and productivity by learning how to interact with others across differences. This course discusses the impact of our cultural lens on our daily relationships and how to counter bias in our words and actions.

IDEAL Business Resource Group

MGIC employees have the opportunity to participate in an active Business Resource Group (BRG) focused on inclusion, diversity and professional growth. The IDEAL BRG meets regularly and provides learning and networking opportunities. IDEAL stands for “Inclusion & Diversity Encourage Authentic Leadership.” Approximately 40% of our Home Office staff actively participate in our BRG. Our mission for IDEAL is to serve as critical strategic partners in our outcome to continuously innovate our business at MGIC. Through Inclusion, Diversity, and Authentic Leadership we drive opportunities, education, and tools to produce a competitive advantage.

“Creating an inclusive and diverse culture and workplace does not happen by chance, the role of MGIC’s IDEAL (Inclusion & Diversity Encourage Authentic Leadership) BRG is to drive awareness, visibility and attention to inclusion and diversity. In this way we help foster an environment where all co-workers feel a sense of belonging and all co-workers' ideas and thoughts are heard and valued – an environment where everyone can bring their authentic self to work every day.”

– Dianna Higgins, VP Internal Audit & BRG Leadership Chair
