Commitment to helping our communities thrive

At the core of what drives our company is a desire to do what is right. One way we accomplish this is by serving as a responsible corporate citizen. By supporting local organizations, we work to help make Milwaukee a strong community.

Every year, we lend support to causes emphasizing health, social services, civic efforts, education, arts and culture.

Giving Back, Together

Introduced in February 2021, Giving Back, Together is a branded program at MGIC designed to organize and celebrate our philanthropic and community activities. The word “together” reinforces that we will be thoughtful in our approach by coming together to identify ways to maximize our impact in the community through financial giving, volunteerism and MGIC representation.

Passionate about making a difference in our community

We help build houses, mentor young adults, run charity events and more. MGIC offers multiple volunteer opportunities to our co-workers so it’s easy to make a real impact in the community and contribute to the cause.

Every year, we lend support to causes emphasizing health, social services, civic efforts, education, arts and culture. These are several of the 150 causes and programs we support. You’ll find more organizations listed in our Corporate Sustainability Report

One of our strategic priorities is to foster an environment where diversity is embraced, and co-workers are positioned to succeed. This requires providing tools and resources for people to fully develop in the organization, increasing opportunities for engagement, and endeavoring to recruit diverse teams to best serve our customers.

We know our strength is our people

We celebrate our differences and endeavor to foster a diverse and inclusive company culture because we believe it leads to better business outcomes and it's the right thing to do. While we've made great strides to increase representation, especially with gender equality, we're cognizant that we still have a long way to go.

Commitment to our environment

Environmental sustainability is rooted in MGIC’s history and corporate culture. We take seriously our responsibility to conduct our business with integrity and strive to be a model in our hometown of Milwaukee and across the country. We understand that it’s critical to serve as good stewards of the environment as we aspire to meet our goal to be the best-in-class mortgage credit enhancement provider. We want to achieve our goals without compromising the ability of future generations to sustain their needs. To that end, we seek ways to build upon our current sustainability work as well as uncover new opportunities to effect change.

GHG Emissions by Source

Greenhouse gas emissions and energy management

One example that demonstrates our stewardship for the planet is how we track and review our annual energy consumption and the implementation of a variety of energy-saving initiatives.

In 2021, we were recognized by the City of Milwaukee for our successful participation in the US Department of Energy's Better Buildings Challenge, which encouraged commercial building owners to effectively develop and implement energy efficiency projects at their properties.

Through our diligent efforts to make improvements in our operations, we have reduced our electricity usage by 37% since 2010.

In 2022, we completed our first greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions assessment to understand our baseline Scope 1 and 2 emissions for the 2021 calendar year (see full inventory in the 2023 Corporate Sustainability Report). Through this exercise, we were able to identify electricity and purchased steam as top emission sources.
